The prime season for luxury Svalbard travel is from May to September. During these months, sea ice recedes to allow ship access, polar bears roam the pack ice, and walrus colonies crowd the shores. Summer also brings the midnight sun, with 24 hours of daylight for photography and exploration. Winter months, by contrast, offer the polar night and Northern Lights, though most luxury expeditions are designed for the summer season.
